Did you know that Oregon has it’s own “District Export Council” (or DEC) called “Export Council of Oregon” (http://www.exportcounciloforegon.org/index.html), and I attended their quarterly networking event. Although on the Pacific Coast, the “export industry” is quiet here as compared to other cities on the Coast such as Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle…however, I learned that export-supported jobs linked to manufacturing account for an estimated 7.6 percent of Oregon’s total private-sector employment, the fifth highest figure among the 50 states!! I thought manufacturing was on the decline…but apparently not here in Oregon?!?! I also thought farm products was the number one export for Oregon…but the top export product for Oregon is….by more than a 2 to 1 margin over farm products……drum roll please……computer & electronic products! WOW…learn something new everyday. I thought we imported most of computer & electronics but maybe we export the product, and import the final assembled good? If interested in what is #3 thru #30, the list can be found at http://www.oregon4biz.com/p/topExportInd.pdf
Happy Exporting Oregon!!
